X-Ray

X-Ray is an exclusive feature on Prime Video that enhances your watching experience. Allowing you to find out actor info while you watch, including music, scenes, trivia and more.

X-Ray for Web

Prime Video aimed to introduce X-Ray to the web player, previously exclusive to Fire TV and Kindle devices. One of the main challenges was ensuring X-Ray's quickview feature was accessible within a scalable web player, which required a shift from the horizontal design used on Fire TV to a vertical presentation. I collaborated closely with a US-based development team to overcome this design challenge and successfully launch X-Ray for the web.

Who’s that actor? 🤔

Here you can find all relevant actor information taken directly from IMDb. You are able to browse a bit deeper, reading the full actor bio, glance the popular ‘known for’ list, other titles, with direct playback elegiblity, or enter an actor gallery to view all their photos.

X-Ray quickview integrated into the player UI and timestamps real time IMDb sourced information as a video plays. Actors, music & trivia are displayed as interactive cards.

This allows on screen information quick to gleam, reminding yourself of who that actor within seconds.

The X-Ray fullscreen view can be accessed by interacting with a single card, or the ‘View all’ button. Playback is paused and you are taken directly to the subsequent screen.

On every device

X-Ray was a cross-platform initiative, delivered on a family of devices and platforms.

Desktop

Mobile

Mobile X-Ray was released much later and borrowed from my X-Ray design aesthetic.

TV apps & consoles

TV apps for Samsung and LG, including consoles XBOX and PS took on the Fire TV aesthetic.

Fire TV

Fire TV was the first platform to get X-Ray, this acted as my main reference.

Digging a little deeper 🧐

Actors gallery contained every picture of an actor found on IMBd. No need to leave the player, while you browse through their entire catalogue!

Gallery slideshow utilise full use of the screen to showcase each picture. The full gallery can be navigated via carousel.

CONCEPT

Pin X-Ray to the screen so that it’s viewable at all times. We didn’t implement this feature as we didn’t have enough evidence to suggest viewers wanted it.
